Bolts, Screws and Nuts
EN 1515-4 is applicable for the selection of screws and nuts for flange connections on devices subject to the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU.
EN 1515-4 specifies standards and additional requirements for dimensions, material properties and technical delivery conditions for screws and nuts.
NOTE 1 : Washers are not within the scope of this document.
The selection is based on commonly used screws and nuts. It covers common temperature ranges for general flange operation.
When selecting bolts and nuts according to this document, it is essential to consider environmental conditions and other parameters including type of fluids, corrosion hazards, acidic operating environments, brittle fracture at low temperatures and relaxation at elevated temperatures.
The purpose of this document is to provide a selection of the most common types and material combinations of screws and nuts.
It is not intended to define all possible applications, but rather to provide guidance for the most common applications. For example, the application limits of materials in the creep range are not explicitly discussed in this document. If mechanical properties for the creep range are provided in a material standard, reference will be made accordingly in Table 3.
NOTE 2 : Special operating areas and environmental conditions may require the application of coatings. The decision in this regard lies with the purchaser. Depending on the coating used, a review of the temperature ranges shown in Table 3 and Table 4 may be necessary.
NOTE 3 : Annex B contains types and material combinations of bolts and nuts according to common national standards not listed in Table 2, Table 3 and Table 4.

Product Shall be Marked with our manufacturing trade mark "TorqBolt" or "TB" along with the designated Grade.
Grade and manufacturer’s identification symbols shall be applied to one end of studs and to the heads of bolts and screws of all sizes. (If the available area is inadequate, the grade symbol may be marked on one end and the manufacturer’s identification symbol marked on the other end.) For bolts and screws smaller than 1⁄4 in. [6 mm] in diameter and studs smaller than 3⁄8 in. [10 mm] in diameter and for 1⁄4 in. [6 mm] in diameter studs requiring more than a total of three symbols, the marking shall be a matter of agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.
